Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman

Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman

Directed by Kôji Shiraishi

In this violent Japanese fright flick based on a popular urban legend, a disfigured female ghost begins kidnapping children in a small town. They call her the “Slit-Mouthed Woman” because a gash across her face gives her a monstrous appearance, similar to the villain in ICHI THE KILLER. When local kids start disappearing, two teachers realize they must stop her before their students wind up dead. Though Kôji Shiraishi's (GROTESQUE) terrifying tale owes a clear debt to CANDYMAN and RINGU, the devlish director manages to put his own uniquely perverse spin on the subject matter. (In Japanese with English Subtitles)

A disfigured female ghost begins kidnapping children in a small town.

Cast: Eriko Satô, Miki Mizuno

I had a flash drive with this and Teke Teke both on it, no subtitles, in the most god awful quality imaginable. Was really stoked to finally be able to see it properly, and it didn’t disappoint!

Proper Japanese horror movie. Not one that’s been Americanized and still holds true to the tale. Slow to burn as usual but worth the wait! If you like the older Japanese horror flicks, this one will not disappoint. If you want great effects and lots of action, this ain’t your jam.

If you don't go in expecting it to stick to the urban legend comepletely, then this makes for a good thriller. Very interesting and at sometimes touching.
