The Manitou
Directed by William Girdler
A growth on a woman’s back turns out to be the reincarnation of an evil medicine man in this insanely strange cult horror hit. Harry (Tony Curtis) is a fortune teller confronted with real magic when his girlfriend’s tumor starts causing scary things to happen. Harry discovers an evil shaman is birthing himself on Karen’s back and when he’s born, she’ll die. So it’s time to call on all the manitous (spirits) of the world, leading to a final showdown that takes place (obviously) in outer space! If you’ve never seen this before, strap yourself in. It’s a very wild ride.

I read the Graham Masterson novel as a teen. I was so excited to see the movie when it came out. It was great fun watching it again.😀 Also I love the 70’s set up: gigantic computer right next to the bottle of booze in the doctor’s office.
I... I can't even begin to parse what I've seen here today. Tiresome ethnic tropes/racism? Check! Painfully narrow worldview? Check! 70's occultsploitation? Check! Tony Curtis in a shirt so tight you can see his nipples? Check! 100% balls out insanity, this one doesn't drag, rather its a steamroller of a film that never lets up until it's completely bonkers finale. Recommended!
Interesting! Enjoyed it.
Flat out bonkers. Masterpiece? No, far from it. But tons of goofy fun.
Note to self: Don't play with Tarot cards. Or do, I'm a review... not a cop.
