The Death King

The Death King

Directed by Jorg Buttgereit

Controversial gorehound Jörg Buttgereit serves up seven stories about suicide, one for each day of the week. As a corpse rots away, Buttgereit depicts the final moments of seven sad lives, leaving the viewer to ponder what compels them to take that final leap. After NEKROMANTIK became an unexpected cult hit, Buttgereit didn't want to be stuck making the same film over and over. So he crafted this disturbing cinematic essay that offered audiences a very different vision of horror. Though this powerful film isn't easy to endure, you won't be able to forget it. (In German with English Subtitles)

What a strange movie, I feel like I missed something somewhere along the line

This was not as extreme as I thought it would be. Others complained about the background music, but I loved it. Certain parts triggered my ASMR, and the theme music swayed me into another dimension that was guided by the imagery of suicide. I was already comfortable about suicide, so none of it really shocked me. Instead, it provoked and challenged my previous views on the subject.

with the "extreme" reputation preceding it, i went into this believing i was in for a cinematic browbeating akin to kieslowski or haneke. instead i was treated to somewhat of an odd duck with a vitality and wit much more similar to a young peter greenaway. hell, if it weren't for the infamous bit imagery, i would dare to say this is downright charming in a lot of ways. definitely not much here for the majority of gorehound halfwits that trawl this site.

As an art nerd that adores horror, I LOVED this movie. One of my new top favorites.
