The Blob

The Blob

Directed by Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr.

Irwin Yeaworth’s ‘50s drive-in horror classic stars Steve McQueen as a teen battling an alien blob that grows bigger and bigger the more humans it consumes. Once the blob escapes from a doctor’s office after slurping down the staff, it heads towards a movie theater, where – in a scene that likely inspired the famous scene in William Castle’s THE TINGLER – it starts eating the screaming teenage horror audience. How’s that for a meta metaphor? Made on the cheap, THE BLOB quickly became a huge hit, along with its goofy theme song co-written by the great Burt Bacharach!
