Irreversible
Directed by Gasper Noe
French provocateur Gaspar Noe’s controversial arthouse thriller travels back in time to tell the story of a couple who experience an act of brutal violence that changes their lives forever. The film begins with the aftermath, as Marcus (Vincent Cassel, BLACK SWAN) hunts for the assailant in an S&M club, then jumps back to the tunnel where Alex (Monica Belucci, SPECTRE) is savagely attacked in one famously excruciating 9-minute shot. But the biggest shock comes at the end, which is actually the beginning of this savage story. Though the not-for-the-easily-triggered film bitterly divided audiences, it remains a must-see for fans of the Euro-shock era of the 2000’s.

So THIS is the great "Irreversible"? Meh. I've seen a few movies that unfurl backwards now, but this is actually the worst. It loses me early on with the distractingly bad camerawork and boring edgelord writing; is it Andrew Tate's favorite movie? Probably. The best stuff is actually the rape itself (shot harrowingly so it's terrifying and believable) and everything following it (actually preceding it chronologically) where we actually become emotionally involved. If the whole thing had been as good as that, this would be a classic.
Highly recommended
Telling the story backward was just okay in this case. It didnt really serve to strengthen the story or meaning of the film. The acting was good, direction was solid, and the writing was believable. The cinematic elements were very chaotic and left me feeling uneasy. There are a few isolated instances of graphic violence, and of course the infamous tunnel scene. Certainly one of the most graphic and disturbing rape scenes in cinema. I have a ton of respect for Monica Belluci for having the lady balls to act out that scene. Its not one I wish to see again. Overall, the film was a bit disturbing and had a very bleak message. If you want to feel a little better about your lot in life, this is a good one to reflect on. Final thoughts: Ladies, be safe out there. Avoid dark tunnels in bad parts of town and stay away from violent pimps.
the end is just the beginning!
