As experts in the BBC studio discuss supernatural phenomena, reporter Sarah Greene waits patiently for proof of a poltergeist named Pipes, whose bad behavior grows bolder throughout the evening. GHOSTWATCH freaked out gullible viewers across the UK (no warning indicated the special was scripted), leading to controversy, lawsuits and a devoted cult following who continue to search the doc for hidden glimpses of the ghoul.

For such an early take on the “found footage” concept, it’s flawlessly executed. Terrifying, funny, and strangely believable; highly recommended for horror fans who like a slow burn.

It should be four and a half skulls from me, but alas, the rating system doesn't let me cut skulls in half. Ah well - I really love this, I've probably seen it a dozen times and every time I catch a glimpse of you-know-who in there I start getting the willies. Watching it with somebody who neither likes horror or knows much about 90s-00s BBC programming means I have to stop and explain bits, which has unfortunately given me more time to think about the weak spots, but I'm almost certainly going to be watching it again in like a month, so. lol. It's really fun to see bits that clearly influenced other horror 5, 10, 20, 30 years later. I agree with everyone who says double feature it with "Late Night With the Devil," that's going to be how I watch them both next time I do.
Watching this on streaming on a laptop in the year 2025, after reading the description, and still went "oh holy shit fucked up they caught this live. " No real big scares, but really solid atmosphere, creeped me out, and I'm a big sucker for found footage that actually feels legit.
