Children of the Corn

Children of the Corn

Directed by Fritz Kiersch

A couple must escape from a town of evil kids in this Stephen King short-story adaptation that spawned seven sequels. Burt and Vicky (Linda Hamilton) are traveling through Nebraska until an accident leads them to a town where twisted tykes obey a kiddie preacher (John Franklin, THE ADDAMS FAMILY's Cousin Itt) who demands all adults must be sacrificed to an evil entity who lives in the cornfield. Mixing elements of the '70s horror classic WHO CAN KILL A CHILD? and Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery", COTC is a must-see for any fan of King's tale and '80s horror.

A couple must escape from a town of evil kids in this scary Stephen King adaptation.

A solid adaptation.

Certain parts of the plot are invented, but it is the best and most faithful adaptation of Stephen King's story. A slasher product with touches of mystery that, although it won't scare you, has become a cult film thanks to a disproportionate collection of unnecessary and bad sequels. A third act full of special effects worthy of its time.

I can't understand how this movie could become a cult classic, finding it not very good, despite a good idea with murderous children killing for a pagan god. The problem is that it's many moments of length, it's not dark enough and that it's a happy ending that's too forced, which I didn't like. I hope these sequels will be better.

I’ve watched this movie way more times than is justified by its quality, but it scratches a particular itch for me. If you like hokey 70s/80s movies, folk horror and Stephen King adaptations you will like it. If any of those 3 are not for you, you won’t. Looking forward to finally watching the rest of the franchise. Appreciate you Shudder 🌽💀
