Carnival of Souls
Directed by Herk Harvey
A woman begins seeing mysterious ghostly figures following her after a car crash in this creepy cult classic from 1962 which anticipates the films of George Romero and David Lynch. After specializing in industrial films, director Herk Harvey (who plays one of the ghouls) poured his heart and soul into what would be his only narrative feature. But after an initial box office failure, CARNIVAL became a cult classic to future generations, who connected with the film's atmospheric TWILIGHT ZONE-meets-Ingmar Bergman style. A must-see film for any horror fan.

just wasn't interesting at all
excellent
None of the characters were particularly likeable, which made it hard to be interested in how things turned out for them, and (without spoilers) the ending was a trope that I was bored of the first time I encountered it. Some of the landscape shots were interesting to look at and the make-up on the ghouls was well done for its time, but other than that I find it hard to find any redeemable qualities in this film. I'll stick to the films from the 30s-50s and accept that 60s films aren't for me.
For the time, this is good, but I just couldn't get behind it as much as more up to date films. It could be creepy at times but the backstory really took over instead of the actual horror. Would be good for people just getting into the horror genre and want to ease in to the genre.
