The all time greatest BBC Ghost Story at Christmas and an excellent adaption of the original M. R. James story. A personal favorite that I'm happy to watch again and again.
Loved the aesthetic here. Slow and cozy and creepy, with a unique main character.
As an avid fan of M. R. James' work, I found this adaptation disappointing. The filmmakers managed to incorporate a number of specific details that were exact to the original story, and yet they stripped the story of its spirit. It's visually interesting at times and has some creative cinematography, but the characters are unappealing, and it really feels too long considering the lack of story content. IMO, the runtime probably could have been cut in half.
spooky
The more I watch this one, the more I like it. It's just so weird. So weird. And Michael Hordern's portrayal of an academic is brilliant.
