It's a classic for sure. There are some cringe components for today's world though (no apparently doesn't mean no when a man wants to take you out). The story is fairly basic.

A classic for a reason! Additionally, there is the all-star cast including: Lon Chaney Jr. , Claude Raines, Bela Lugosi, & Ralph Bellamy, to name a few.

Classic. The obvious metaphor of not being able to control our animal side, or else our control our more primitive urges. It's no coincidence that the wolfman is "on the hunt" for the engaged female or that he "doesn't have a mind for theory" but has always been "good with tools". And Lugosi is absolutely brilliant in his small part. It's entirely about self destruction brought on by the inability to control desire and rage. Our sympathy for the wolfman is the proof of how much we see ourselves in that struggle, how close we all are to loosing control given the right circumstances. It's a reminder that humans are indeed animals.
