interesting and worth watching. It had unexpected turns and a good story with good atmosphere. The special effects were a bit on the low budget side. If they had a better budget, they could have done more than just a puppet.

Magnificently shot and framed. It felt like I was watching a much older movie, one that emphasized the art of the scene and its elements rather than the action taking place within it. If Franco Zeffirelli did horror, this would be it. The story is tight, and the film does well to pace the events and characterization of everyone. I was sincerely impressed with how every minute of the film was spent TELLING the story of the tragedy of the Vourdalak and his (its?) family. Not a single scene went to waste. Everyone acted the hell out of their role, no matter how little the dialogue or screentime they got. I'll have to give this a rewatch just for the sheer beauty of the film. "Barry Lyndon"'s cinematography meets "Interview With the Vampire"'s troublesome homosocial bonding.

I did not expect to like this as much as I did. Embrace the puppetry. Makes Orlok look like he’s almost normal.
