I found this difficult to take seriously. Because the film goes for a more "realistic" scenario (in the sense that it's based on a killer and is not relying on demons, aliens, etc), it makes the far-fetched situations that occur seem even more silly.

Superior physical effects classic with great sounds ape, performances and gritty action. Remains as haunting today as when it first appeared.
