took off a point because I wanted to see the 7-colour paper
For a Japanese film Inugami is unusually Gothic in the Western tradition – atmospherically it evokes a Hammer Horror-like quality – it is very “literary” in feel with a consistent undertone of dread; Folk Horror before that genre began to trend.
Tool? Just wanted to put that there. Im a huge fan of movies that detail how people live and traditions and culture. Not scary but compelling indeed.
A truly tragic and depressing film in its narrative, showing how beliefs can destroy a community, but the film suffers from length.
Of course, the moment I decide to buy the J-Horror Arrow boxset, these movies all appear on Shudder.
