Dave Made A Maze

Directed by Bill Watterson

Dave, a frustrated artist who has yet to accomplish anything significant in his career, builds a fort out of cardboard boxes in his living room, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls and critters of his own creation. Ignoring his warnings, Dave's girlfriend Annie leads a band of oddball explorers on a rescue mission. Upon entry, they find themselves in an ever-changing supernatural world, threatened by booby traps and pursued by a bloodthirsty Minotaur Reimagining the classic 80’s adventure films with a modern comedic edge, the handmade fantasy world of DAVE MADE A MAZE comes to life with puppetry, stop-motion animation, and on-camera optical illusions.

An unaccomplished and frustrated artist builds a cardboard box fort in his living room and winds up trapped with a gang of oddball explorers in a fantasy world of his own creation, threatened by booby traps and a bloodthirsty Minotaur.

Clever and a delight to look at, the movie unfortunately has its head up its own... self. Sad fail-boy just wants to create - why is society so MEAN? It tries to recover from that vibe with a little pretentiousness and self awareness. But overall it's emotionally flat once the initial charm wears off.

Really good and way better than I had expected it would be. Just a really imaginative and fun movie. Check it out and see what you think. On to the next.

Brilliant. A work of art.

Worth it for the creativity of the set design alone but really so much more than that.

If the weird kid in high school art class that occasionally spoke and everyone chuckled made a movie, this would be the movie.
