I love this movie. Scratches every itch, and utterly surprising.
This movie went over a lot of people’s heads. It’s a metaphor within a metaphor. The whole idea is about jungian psychology. How we need to integrate our anima/animus and shadow in order to “wake up” fully.
Great idea done badly. I hope it gets a remake someday that’s better. The ending feels like they just ran out of money and threw it together with the wildest ideas from their late-night, last minute idea meeting.
I tried really hard to give it a chance, and saw most of it, but I gave up about 20 minutes or so to the end. Maybe the ending is good from what others have said, but this really bored the crap out of me. I've seen and liked some slow-burn horrors, but if it's over an hour in and you're still bored, the movie is fatally flawed.
Definitely worth a watch. High quality atmospheric horror but, as others have stated, they did not stick the landing.
