Birth of the Living Dead

Birth of the Living Dead

Directed by Rob Kuhns

In 1968 a young college drop-out named George A. Romero gathered an unlikely team - from Pittsburgh policeman, iron workers, housewives and a roller rink owner - to create a low budget horror film that would revolutionise the industry, and spawn a new flesh eating monster that endures to this day…that film was NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD is the story of how they managed to pull off the greatest guerrilla shoot of all time.

The story of how George Romero managed to pull off the greatest guerrilla shoot of all time.

I always love listening to Romero. This is my favorite documentary with him

Not a bad documentary. Let down by overstating the movie's importance to the point where it becomes a bit irritating, and not enough of George himself. That said, the how and why of it all is still interesting stuff.

People complaining about showing a 50+ year old movie to students in a class taught through film need to seriously get a life. How are you even a horror fan? Also believing kids don't watch R rated horror films is laughable, besides I'm sure the teacher was required to get signed permission to show the films by the parents so really doubt anything "illegal" was happening here. Also the comments about "overstating" race relations in the 1960s are ridiculous. Its coming from the director and cast/crew, pretty sure they knew what kind of film they were making and what it meant to them.

Showing it to children and the overstating of the racial aspect turned this documentary into a true dumpster fire.

George Romero has always been an interesting character to interview. Even though I don’t take Night of the Living Dead as a political movie, I do now, in some ways, understand why it is one. This documentary is definitely worth the watch, even if you just know THE MOVIE, it sure gives you a good understanding of the director, his humor, and his character.
