no. so sorry. the fight club thing? really? none of this actually happened, but i don't know, an analogy for substance abuse or something. nah it doesn't work at all. i'm not usually one to give away spoilers, but you are much better off not wasting your time. the christmas setting does literally nothing for the story even. i appreciate the writers attempt to put something deeper in it, but it falls really, really flat. i liked the monster though. i just don't even understand the choice of evil porcupine. no reason to watch.
I love a good monster flick. This one was just kinda OK. It was a slow to start but I did like the twist ending.
Christmas horror is usually hit-or-miss. I like this better than the yearly litany of silly slashers, but everything kind of falls apart by the 3rd act. That being said, I can't exactly fault ambition. This was an ambitious movie that didn't stick the landing.
This movie has high marks for production values, acting and editing—but the writer goes too many directions at once, and provides a downer of an ending that only a young person with very little real experience of the issues they’re exploring is likely to have crafted. The last few minutes of the film renders the whole story an incoherent mess. I regretted having wasted my time with it.
This is what happens when a film maker wants to make a movie about a horrific creature doing horrific creature shit, but they are too lazy to make a cool idea for why the creature exists, so they give themselves an out by making the whole thing a metaphor for some bullshit that is only vaguely related to the first 3/4ths of the movie. Way to waste some cool creature effects by filling the void left by the under-developed concept with a bunch of social issue crap the likes of which could be found on the set of Dr. Phil. It gets 2 skulls because the horror related stuff looked cool, but it gets 3 skulls taken for wasting said cool shit on the absolute vacuum that exists where there should have been a cool idea. I'd give it 2 and a half if I could, but such is life.
