You know, I didn't have high expectations for this after 2 and 3, but this really does land it. No goofy monologues, no weird savior nonsense, just a haunted house and its victims. The ties back to the earlier films are tight and don't try rewriting what we've already seen, the scares are well presented and paced. If you liked 1, you could skip 2 and 3 and watch this one and this would land well.
This movie is fantastic. Its up there with the first one.
Nailed the mood, the pacing, and the scares that made the first film so memorable. And refreshing to set it outside the hotel, but still tie it in to the overall story. The closing scene gave me chills as some things clicked into place. I love this series, even when it gets a little over the top. This story brought it back down to earth and retained the chills.
